Brake Rotor Resurfacing / Replacement Service

Brake rotors work together with the brake pads to stop your car. The rotors are attached to the wheel and the brake pads are placed over the front and back of the rotor. The pads are inside the thick metal part called a caliper. The caliper has a piston inside of it that pushes the pads against the rotor when you press down the brake pedal. In time, the rotor can thin, warp, or it can get damaged because the brake pads got too thin and cut grooves into it.

Why is it Important?

When the rotors deteriorate, it is important to have something done about it quickly. Bad rotors will negatively affect your ability to stop your car and that could lead to an accident. The surface of the rotor has to be smooth enough and thick enough for the pads to clamp down on it to stop your car. If the rotor has grooves, gotten too thin, or warped because of uneven wear patterns, the pads cannot connect press flatly against the surface of the rotor to create the friction needed to efficiently stop your car.

There are signs that will tell you that your rotors need servicing right away, including:

  • Squeaking Sounds: Warped rotors typically give off a squealing or squeaking sound.
  • Worn Rotors: When the rotors get too thin, you will typically hear scraping sounds.
  • Pedal Vibrations: You will start to feel a vibration in the brake pedal as the rotor wobbles or vibrates.
  • Stopping Time: You will find that your car is no longer stopping as quickly as normal.
  • Groove Marks: You can see the damage to the rotor when you look at it through spokes in the wheel.
