It’s a list of our favorite haunted houses in Des Moines. Whether you’re searching for a spooky family scare, or you want the devil scared out of you and your friends, we’ve got the haunt that’s perfect for you.

Linn’s Haunted House

Voted “Best Haunted House” by Cityview readers, Linn’s is located in the basement and features spooky rooms with moving walls, dark hallways that deprive you of your sight, claustrophobia-inducing tunnels that force you to crawl to make it out and, of course, clowns in the massive indoor, underground haunted house.

  • Hours: Fridays and Saturdays, September 28 – October 26, 7:00 PM – 12:00 AM
    Sunday, October 21 and 28, 7:00 PM – 12:00 AM
    October 29 – 31, 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Ames Haunted Forest

If you prefer your scares outside, consider checking out the terrifying Ames Haunted Forest, now in its 20th year! Located on South 4th Street, just east of University Blvd. in Ames, the Haunted Forest is filled with ghouls, goblins, zombies, and yes, serial killers out to get you – unless you can outrun them in the dark – do you dare?

  • Hours: Fridays and Saturdays, October 5 – October 13, 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM
    Fridays and Saturdays, October 19 – October 27, 7:00 PM – 12:00 AM
    Sundays, October 21 and 27, 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM

The Slaughterhouse

Just a quick drive north of Norwalk is the horrifyingly realistic Slaughterhouse featuring Slipknot. The show this year features actors and sets designed to bring the band’s music to life, exciting if you’re a fan, terrifying if you’re not (yet).

  • Location: 97 Indiana Ave., Des Moines, IA
  • Hours: October 5-7, 11-14, 18-21, 25-28 and 31, 2018.
    7:00 PM -10:00 PM Thursdays and Sundays
    7:00 PM – 12:00 AM Fridays and Saturdays

Sleepy Hollow Scream Park

Just a quick drive from West Des Moines is the Sleepy Hollow Sports Park which, every Halloween, transforms into the Sleepy Hollow Scream Park, an award-winning theme park designed to scare the daylights out of you! Wander the Nightmare Estates, zap fiendish zombies in the laser tag adventure, and have a terrifyingly good time escaping the chainsaw-wielding maniac at the end.

  • Days: October 5-6, 12-13, 18-21, 25-28 and 31, 2018.
